Kate knew this day was coming. All the students applied to college, and they all got rejected. It made Kate wonder why they even bothered encouraging students to apply. Wouldn't it be less damaging to their psyche if they could lower students' expectations? She would have been horrified if she had only gotten accepted to a community college when she was younger, and she knew Savannah had her sights set high, something she knew she was partially responsible for pounding into her brain.
She hesitated in the door way for a moment as she watched Savannah review the letter, sighing softly as she hurled it across the room. Well, there was probably no easy way to do this sort of thing. Unfortunately, there was no chapter in the parenting books about helping your child cope with not getting into colleges because you were a terrible parent and had rigged the system in order to be able to keep a closer eye on their developing mutations. ...Wouldn't that have made a lovely chapter title?
Clearing her throat, she stepped into the room and offered Savannah a small smile. "Savannah." Her gaze drifted to the balled up paper and then back to her daughter. "Can I sit?"
