I never got this notif. I'm so sorry. :(
George waited for her to take a seat before walking back around his desk and taking his own seat there. Where a person went to sit down was very telling, especially in an office like this. She could have gone to sit at the couch or the arm chair, but instead, she chose to sit in front of his desk as if she was coming for a job interview or a meeting. This meant that she was a respectful person and exuded a professional, mature attitude when in the presence of an older adult.
Another thing George noticed was that she didn't seem like the type to like confrontation of any kind. He knew very well she didn't drive, yet when asked, she neither denied nor confirmed that she didn't own a car. It also meant he would likely have to work a bit to get the whole truth out of her if she was just going to be giving him simple answers. It was fine though. He appreciated the fact that she was here. It was a lot better than getting bitched at by an immature brat that could have easily said 'no' and been done with it.
"Excellent," he said, tidying up some papers on his desk and setting them aside. He folded his hands and placed them on his desk, leaning forward to speak to her. "I'm going to first explain to you what we're going to do today. Don't worry. I'm not going to give you the SATs or anything. And if you decide you would like to return, I will explain what we will work on when you return. For now, I would just like for you to know that if you feel thirsty or hungry, we have water and snacks outside. You are more than welcomed to them. Also, should you feel the need to walk around as you talk or sit more comfortably on the couch or in the chair over there, you can do that as well at any time."
He smiled at her before continuing. "Everything you say here to me, I repeat to no one. Unless you specifically designate a person I can speak to about this, what is said in this room stays in this room. The purpose of this is for me to help you. At times, I may ask you questions that you may perhaps have a hard time answering. Just remember that I don't ask these questions for my own personal gain. I ask them because they are going to help you. You may also choose not to answer them if you are not comfortable. My intention is not to put you on the spot. And yes, I take notes. Lots of notes. Don't let that get you nervous.
