Who: Natalie, Evan, Brendan
What: Oh, you know, gettin' their tan on
When: Saturday
Where: The pool
Rating: PG-13?

Natalie needed to get outside. It was too perfect to stay in. The sun was shining brightly overhead, and although being a runner kept Natalie from being completely pasty, winter was just now coming to an end, and she could use the color (and the Vitamin D!), so she'd changed into her favorite purple bikini, tossed on a cover up, and headed out.

She grinned as she stepped through the gate, tossing her bag next to a chair. She grabbed her towel and spread it out on top of the chair, before tugging off the cover up and reaching for her tanning lotion. She just finished her legs when the sound of the gate opening caught her attention, and she spotted Brendan. "Brendan!" she exclaimed, grinning. "You have excellent timing! You can help me with my back!"

Now that summer was coming, it was nice to get back outside and Brendan was not going to miss that opportunity. It had been a while since he had been able to take a swim, which sounded like a good idea at the time. He threw on a t-shirt, his trunks, and flip-flops then grabbed a towel and head out.

With the apartment being close to the pool, it didn't take him long to get there. It had been one of the many benefits moving in with Bast, aside from having a roommate he could count on not to bail on him. He didn't see too many people there yet as he walked up; it would be nice to have some time by himself before all the parents brought their little kids to make all the noise. Just after he walked through the gate, he heard a voice call his name. It wasn't too often girls would scream his name at him aside from one person, but she didn't sound like Mari.

Brendan looked towards the voice and saw Natalie. He knew her a little through Evan and she had always been nice to him so he didn't see the harm in saying hi. "Hello to you, too," he joked with a friendly grin as he walked over. He couldn't help but glance down at her as he dropped his towel and sat down; Evan surely knew how to pick 'em. "Where's Evan?"

"Dunno. We don't spend every second together, you know." she answered with a smirk. Okay, so maybe they spent a lot of time together, especially after her accident, but they weren't attached at the hip!

Natalie and Brendan weren't the closest of friends, but he was friends with Evan and good friends with Mari, which, in Natalie's world made him friend by association and all pretenses of formalities were quickly forgotten. "Seriously, though, will you help me? I like being tan and all, but I generally try and avoid melanoma." She wiggled the tanning lotion in front of him. "I'll do you if you do me!"

"Right, sorry," Brendan chuckled a little.

Normally this situation probably wouldn't have bothered him so much but since Natalie had been his friend's girl it was a little nerve racking. But it wasn't like she was asking him to do anything that would compromise their friendship. It was just tanning lotion. He laughed and shrugged it off, "I guess I can spare you from skin cancer." Brendan took the bottle and sat down on the edge of her chair, spraying some lotion into his hands.

"So what've you been up to?"

"I appreciate it. If you hadn't come along I'd have been doing the awkward reach around and probably ended up with awkward tanlines."

"Honestly? Not as much as I'd have liked since that stupid car wreck." The deep bruises on her shoulder form the seat belt had taken much longer to heal than she would have liked, which meant she was out of track practice and work, too. "I'm back in track practice now finally, though, and they're gradually giving me more hours again at work." She shifted so that he had access to her back. "What about you? Busy?"

Brendan tried to ignore numerous jokes that popped into his head at what Natalie had said as he rubbed the tanning cream into his hands before placing them gently against her back. He massaged the cream into her smooth skin softly, being careful of the bruises on her shoulder. "Sorry that you had to go through that. I'm sure that wasn't fun, and hard for a while." He had never known what it was like to get involved in a car wreck but he did know exactly what it felt like to lose someone because of it.

For a moment, he stopped paying attention to where his hands were going as he thought about the car wreck that killed his father. His hands slowly started to slip down to her waistline.
