Calvin frowned and muttered something about control. Then, looking up at Emily, he said, "Just be sure you don't try too hard to make sure everything's perfect and miss your chance," he said. "Sometimes..." He hesitated, frowning harder, and after a few seconds shook his head impatiently. "Being fair is overrated," he muttered just loud enough to be heard above a surprisingly gentle chord followed by a minor arpeggio.
That was all he had to say, so he followed up with a few chord changes, getting a little more strident as he transitioned into a song. "Do you know this one?" he asked, ready to get back to playing.
