WHO : Maribel and Lexie!
WHAT : Studying like whoa.
WHERE : The library.
WHEN : Sunday evening.
STATUS : Thread/Complete.
RATING : PG.
Another all-nighter in the school library. Was it really wise to burn yourself out like this before a test? Well, it wasn't wise, but it was certainly necessary. All-nighters were the only way Maribel could study for exams and actually do well on them. Sure, she was dead tired in the morning, but it would be over after the test. So, she could just go home and sleep it off the rest of the day and likely a big part of the night. But for now, it was just her and her books. The library was calm despite having stayed open late for finals. This was good. Mari couldn't stand studying at home. There was always something going on with her sister and her mother, and God knows what else. The library was much better. It was easier to concentrate here at least. Her Education classes weren't difficult, but she wanted to give them a hundred percent.
"No Child Left Behind," she read to herself in barely a whisper, taking notes on her readings so that it would stick to her better. It had come to a point when everything she was studying was theoretical still, just a mixture of laws to memorize and terms to understand. The practice aspect of it couldn't be taught. It was something you had to experience on your own in a classroom. But for a while, it would have to be this way, just theories and graphs and tables. Few of it made sense or was even relevant to real world scenarios, but Mari somehow knew they would play into her respect for the art of teaching.
She heard it before she saw anything. Footsteps rapped on the floor just beyond the shelves from where she was sitting at the table. It was so quiet there that the light footsteps sounded almost like bombs going off in her ear. Or..... Mari quickly covered her ears, nearly yelling out in pain. So loud. Why was everything so loud? Had she acquired an ability? Or had one of her older abilities risen to the surface once more? With a deep breath, she resigned herself to relax, only then could she start to control the ability. And it didn't take long before she was sighing with relief and rubbing her ears like crazy. But that still meant something very important. Someone out there had abilities that somehow set hers off, right? She had to find out just who it was. "Is there anyone there?"
