Who: Mari and those at her private party (OPEN TO ANYONE)
When: Backdated to Saturday because I fail. :(
What: Mari's dinner party before the club
Where: Nice restaurant on the island
Rating: PG-13 <~ this is high for Mari :O
So far so good. Mari couldn't help but smile at the table of all her friends who had gathered to celebrate her birthday (and Olivia's as well Mari insisted). Of course, she was seated next to Brendan, not because she had planned it or even because she had wanted to (and she did want to). It just happened to fall that way, and no one really protested much about the whole thing anyway. Everyone had ordered their drinks and food and were munching on bread as they awaited the meal. The conversation was light, friendly, cheerful. Even Evan and Natalie were behaving. It was enough to bring pure joy to Mari's heart.
Of course, every once in a while, she would stand and go around the table taking pictures with people and just standing by them to talk about randomness, which always seemed pretty exciting when Mari spoke about it. She'd returned to her seat just in time to spot Gail getting up and heading off somewhere mysteriously. Mari didn't think much of it though and continued to sip on her Pepsi. The sight of Brendan and all her friends around her was just lovely if only just a bit foggy. Mari blinked a few times and set down her drink. Why was her vision foggy suddenly?
She closed one eye and kept the other open. Then, she switched eyes. Odd. It was like her vision was changing, and Mari feared she was having another episode of her powers going crazy. Instead, she started to feel this eerie creeping sense as if a slithering snake was crawling up her back slowly and flicking its forked tongue at her head. The fogginess disappeared, only to be replaced by a dull headache and... it took all her restraint to keep from gasping. As she looked from one friend to another, all she could see was.... data?
Natalie Evans. Telepath. She could read minds. The information shocked Mari, even though she knew that already and could somehow tell that Natalie was trying to block out the minds of the people around her.
Arizona Hopkins. Precognition. She could see the future! Mari was gripping her napkin tightly in her hands.
Evan Elwood. Time Manipulation. HE COULD TRAVEL THROUGH TIME! WHAT? Why was the knowledge of all this suddenly making her very nervous?
AJ Swafford. Her tech guy! Intuitive Aptitude?! No wonder he could figure anything out! And it was so complex too. Mari was having a hard time keeping a hold of all this information in her head.
Water manipulation. Enhanced senses. Persuasion! Pheromone Manipulation?
Mari felt like she was on the brink of a breakdown right here in front of all these people. She knew she couldn't. Not here. Not now. Not her. Her... Empathic Mimicry. She could mimic the powers of anyone in this room, no matter how powerful or how dull. She could do what any of them could do. She could read their minds, persuade them to jump off a cliff, drown them. And it wouldn't even be difficult. What was she? She was a monster. She was dangerous. She couldn't allow herself to be around them. It was far too dangerous.
"Excuse me," she heard herself say as if the voice came from far away. It barely sounded like her own. She stood and walked hurriedly to the bathroom, pushing open a stall door and falling to her knees moments before throwing up into the toilet. She coughed and spluttered and felt generally awful. Too much. It was just too much. And it didn't help that her anxiety attack was causing her to hyperventilate a bit.
"Soy horrible," she whispered, her knuckles turning white from how hard she was gripping the seat. How could she have not known the extent of her powers? How could she have not known that she was a monster.
