Natalie sighed as she tossed her keys on the coffee table, untucking her shirt as she plopped down on her couch to leaf through her mail. Bill. Coupons. Magazine. Bill. Credit card offer.
But what came next in the stack wasn’t tossed aside like the rest. Evan Elwood. The mailman had put one of his letters in her mailbox. Natalie hesitated as she stared at those two E’s, which still meant so much more to her than they should have. She could just pretend it had never happened. It didn’t look like that important of a letter. Or she could always just… drop it back in the outgoing mailbox.
But that was ridiculous. Even Natalie had to admit that to herself, and she groaned as she moved toward the bathroom. There was no way in hell she was showing up at Evan’s door without at least showing after work. A ten minute shower, a serious debate about what sort of outfit was appropriate, a realization that she was being ridiculous, and a pair of sweat pants and a tank top later, Natalie was standing in front of Evan’s door, staring at it like it was going to jump out and bite her hand off at any second.
She took in a shaky breath, shook out her hands, and finally… knocked.
