"No," he said with a shake of his head, "not yet." He waved to her though so that she could come inside. He wasn't going out there in his pajamas so that grass and earthworms could stick to his pants like goosebumps. "I'll help you up," he said, grinning at her. Pulling her up would be easy for him. He could lift more than twice her weight if he had to. The tricky thing was not getting her hurt in the process. The trick was using his strength to get her up and not squish her wrists as he was pulling her.
Somehow though, he managed to do that just fine, and before he knew it, he had a Laney Evans in his bedroom way past midnight with all the lights off and nothing but the sounds of the night to accompany them. "Hey," he said again, wrapping his arms around her and hugging her properly. "What are you doing here? I mean, I'm happy to see you, but it's like three in the morning." Okay, he liked to exaggerate a little bit. Just a little bit.
