Spring Break came at a funny time in the year. It wasn't exactly spring, though it wasn't winter either. It was, however, still too cold to want to stay outside for too long. The skies were a crystal blue, and the wind still had its way with people, biting at cheeks and noses. Janey knew better than to leave the house in just a t-shirt and her sweater, but she did so anyway. Her mother often called this her little spurs of rebellion. Janey couldn't quite disagree. If her mother only knew what all was going on in Janey's life, she would drop dead right then and there. If she could read the blogs and follow her around for a day, she would get to know the real Janey Watts. Would the real Janey Watts please stand up?
"No, really. You need to stand up."
Janey woke with a start. She looked up at the person hovering above her, one eye squinting into the bright lights. She had taken to sitting down on the floor of the bookstore in between the shelves to read. She hadn't realized she'd fallen asleep there or that she was blocking half of the graphic novel section. It was no wonder everyone hated tweens. They could be so annoying when they wanted something. "Oh. Sorry." She stood with some effort and walked toward the front of the store. Just one glance out and she could see the busy street. The alarm went off suddenly, making her jump. She was still holding a copy of Dante's Inferno in her hand.
"Shit. Sorry." She felt so out of it. Now she was even more embarrassed than before. She put down the book and walked toward the back of the bookstore. Hopefully no one would recognize her here.
