Calvin leaned in toward Katie and took a deep slow sniff, his hand coming up to catch Katie's hand and draw it closer before he'd thought about what he was doing. He froze, the gesture half complete -- sort of like he froze when experiencing a vision, but he was caught up in memory instead, the tangled and complicated and frustrating memory of why they weren't together any more.
If only she weren't so very much Katie. It was too much temptation.
"Very nice," he said, his breath coming faster from the conflict of desires. He felt like an idiot. What was he doing?
But as long as he'd started, he finished the gesture, taking Katie's hand and pulling it closer -- to get a better sniff of the perfume, of course. "I'll take it." He took a deep breath and straightened away slowly, feeling excited and a little ashamed.
