Penny was about to speak when the school bell rang. It startled her, but it meant that first period had started. She hoped Johnny had come through for her and went to tell her teacher that she was sick. Though, now she just felt jumpy about everything, even mundane school bells. "No, Laney doesn't know, but I don't have to approach it that way." She wasn't sure yet how she would approach it if it actually needed to be approached, but she would figure it out. There were just too many variables right now for her to figure out.
"I don't know," she replied about Johnny. "Something tells me he doesn't. He's usually all about the factual, and his being able to kill my power or even that we have powers isn't going to fly with him." She sighed. He was being so annoying, asking so many questions that she didn't exactly have the answers for right now. "They don't have to know. I could sneak you in, bring you food. You could sleep in my closet. I don't know. Though, I know for a fact that you don't want anyone recognizing you like this, least of all teachers you had or your parents."
She looked at him again, really looked at him. He was mortified. The small side of her that felt compassion was starting to rear its ugly head. It also didn't help that she had a soft spot for him, and seeing him all curled up in his chair just about killed her. Slowly, she reached out a hand for him. "We could try this. If it doesn't work, we'll try something else. Don't be afraid. I'm not leaving you no matter what happens."
