The stress that was accumulating disappeared the moment she heard a familiar voice from the living room area. She couldn’t see at first whose voice it belonged to, but she would in a moment when she left the threshold and quickly followed where the voice was coming from. When her eyes laid upon Grace and Carter in her arms, the questions of where the girl came from starting to flood her mind but she quickly thought of answers as she came closer to the two. Her mother must be here somewhere. Because she didn’t recognize the car that belonged to her mother while she rushed into the house, but then again, she really wasn’t looking for a car.
“Are you kids all right?” she asked as she crouched in front of them, bringing her hands up and resting one on Carter’s knee and the other on Grace’s. She didn’t keep them there for long, it was the motherly instinct within her that took full control and wanted to make sure the kids were all right. She knew there was another adult within the house and hopefully thought Travis was on his way, but if he was held up at the school or someplace else, she really didn’t mind being in the same room with Carter in distress and one of his good friends here before anyone else made it.
