Carter just stared at Grace for a couple of minutes before she threw herself at him with a tight hug. Normally he would have given a sort of girlish squeal and fallen backwards with the sudden rush, but neither of those things happened. He was able to take the extra weight and stay on his feet. He wanted to hug her back, but nothing was making sense today so he just stood their stoically.
Carter felt her rapid breathing and for tears to start soaking his shirt...why was she taking this so hard...his grandma was fine...she was gonna be fine...the EMTs would get here and help his grandma, it would all be okay. She wasn't dead, she just couldn't be, she wouldn't leave Carter here all alone...without a family, she was all he ever had for the majority of his life. He couldn't lose her, not now. When Grace pulled back and asked what happened and where she was he simply pointed back to where her room was and said, "Grandma is sleeping."
