Lexie inclined her head toward Nick a little more when he tugged at her hair, glad to see that he was making use of her pigtails. She knew he was suffering. She didn't know exactly how much, but she was sure that she had at least a pretty good idea. It would take a lot for Nick to drop out of sports, and not just because of his father. She knew how much he loved it, too. His feelings must have been similar to what she would've gone through if she had to stop playing her flute.
Lexie shivered a little and tilted her face up to Nick's, keeping her chin resting on his chest as she spoke. "Everyone deserves forgiveness, Nick," she intoned, softly but firmly. "You said it was a mistake. You didn't mean to do it. We're supposed to hate the sin and love the sinner, right? So that's what I'm doing. I know how hard you're trying to make up for it. And that... it doesn't make it better, exactly, but it at least shows me that you're trying. And that's all anyone can do, right? Try."
