No sooner had Wolf called Lexie, than Nick realized exactly how desperate the situation was. He had royally fucked up this time. Not only had he seriously hurt Eisen and Rory but he’d forced Lexie to come to Eisen’s apartment so soon and it made him absolutely no better than Bradbury. Worse. He was supposed to be her solace in this and he’d done this.
Lexie’s presence did little to reassure Nick that things would be okay, and only deepened the fear that was building in the pit of his stomach. What had come over him? She healed Rory first, but… he still didn’t move. She healed Rory first, but… he still didn’t move. He was breathing a little better now, but he wasn’t moving. Nick watched helplessly, trying to come to grips with exactly how badly he’d screwed up this time, and looked away when she moved over to heal Eisen. How could he have put her in this spot? “I’m sorry, Lexie,” he mumbled.
He was breathing a little better now, but he wasn’t moving. Nick watched helplessly, trying to come to grips with exactly how badly he’d screwed up this time, and looked away when she moved over to heal Eisen. How could he have put her in this spot? He opened his mouth to start an apology, but when Lexie started talking, he stifled quickly and let her yell at him. His eyes fell closed, and he simply listened to what she was saying, shaking his head no when she asked if he was happy.
He was anything but.
“I didn’t,” he stumbled to start. “I only wanted to talk to them. I just… wanted to make them see what they’d done to you. I…”
She told him to move them to the bedroom and he nodded once in agreement, walking over to get Rory first. God help him if Rory woke up while he was carrying him. But he didn’t, and that was almost worse. What had he done? He’d almost killed them. Walking back into the living room, he grabbed Eisen from the floor and repeated the same trek with him, once again begging whatever higher power governed the world that he would wait until Nick was gone to wake up. He couldn’t deal with this yet. He walked back to the living room and looked at Lexie nervously. “Do you, um… want me to carry you?”
