Rory, too, was lost in a smiling, happy haze and he remained just as oblivious to what was going on outside the door as Eisen did. He was just about to say something else -- maybe make a joke -- but he was thrown swiftly back into reality the the snap of the broken doorknob sounded through the house, causing Rory to jump in surprise. As Nick’s towering form filled the doorway and strode inside, Rory’s eyes widened, filling with fear. And it wasn't just Nick, he realized, as Sarah and Wolf followed behind. In his fear, Rory’s body began to seep stay-away-from-me pheromones into the air, trying to give Eisen and himself a protective radius. Given the look on Nick’s face, this encounter was certainly not going to be a pleasant one, and Rory already wanted Nick and his crew to stay as far away from both of them as possible.
Rory bristled as Nick aimed a comment at him. He shouldn’t’ve have let them, but Nick’s words cut him to his core; he really was afraid that something would go wrong, that he’d go back to Lexie again. He trusted Eisen when he said he loved him, but... Rory knew how easily love could be manipulated. In fact, nobody knew that better than he did. Usually he managed to push such thoughts from his mind, but Rory certainly did not appreciate having his deepest fears so casually sniped at. “You don't know what you're talking about, McDermott. You wouldn't know real love if it bit you in the ass." Rory wasn't ordinarily so bold, but words his only ammunition, especially in a situation like this.
As Nick and his team advanced, Rory reached for his chair and quickly and swung himself into it, rolling forward a little to close the space between himself and Eisen, and then parked himself a little in front of him, taking a defensive posture as pheromones thickened the air around them.
