The cool evening air brushed past Janey's cheek as she stood in front of the Conroy-Bradstreet house. She wondered what in the hell she was doing here. Janey had no intentions of going to the dance. In fact, she had no intentions of leaving her basement with her paintings and her drawings. She was perfectly comfortable being an outcast tonight. That was until her mother came down and gave her that little pout that meant she would die if Janey didn't get out and have a social life. Somehow the explanation, "Do it for me," didn't seem like a good enough reason.
Janey was here though, at the Single's Awareness Day party. Woohoo. As if the title wasn't depressing enough, she was once again reminded of how much her previous relationship with Lukas crashed and burned. After New Year's, she barely saw or spoke to him again. It was probably for the best. She had seen how obsessed Mao was over him, and she vowed to never get that way about anyone no matter what.
Entering the house felt like entering the Twilight Zone. It was more like Halloween than Valentine's Day in here for some reason. That was likely due to Janey's attitude tonight. When she walked in, she immediately headed for the back, wanting to get a view of the entire place before actually setting her sights on someone to talk to. Instead, she discovered the best part about Valentine's Day. Chocolate.
