Ben wanted to be intimidating in the beginning. He wanted Rory to understand that he was firmly on his sister’s side here and what Rory had done wasn’t okay. Not by any stretch of the imagination. But somehow, by seeing the look on Rory’s face, the anger waned just a little. Not much, but enough to make him take a seat when Rory gestured toward the chair. He stepped into the room and took a seat, shoulders still squared with tension. He wasn’t going to allow Rory to make him feel like a bad person for wanting to defend his sister. “Fine,” he spoke evenly, nodding his head nonchalantly and scratching the back of his head. He was quiet for a moment, listening to Rory’s words and letting him explain… give his background story. Which started with a rather uncomfortable question.
Fortunately, for all his talent in figuring out when people were or weren’t lying to him, Ben was completely capable of keeping secrets or not telling whole truths himself. He looked at Rory, nodding once as he thought of Calvin and his ability to tell what was going to happen in the future. It wasn’t his explanation to give. Easy or not, Ben was kind of intrigued to hear exactly how Rory could explain manipulating the feelings of two people who had never done anything to him. “I have,” he kept his tone level, trying as hard as he could not to betray exactly how angry he was with Rory.
