School was entirely boring. It was no secret that Becca was looking forward to just getting to practice. There, she didn't have to think about papers or math homework or any of those other things. So yes, it was terribly difficult for her not to stare at the clock as her Calculus class drew closer to ending. It just seemed like time was moving extraordinarily slow on purpose. Just to spite her. Becca heaved a sigh before looking down at her book. Did she know what they were going over? No. Did she care? Of course not. She could probably get some nerd to do her homework for her later. Some of them were just suckers for the hair flip and the smile.
The minutes were ticking by so slowly that she honestly thought that she was going to go nuts. But finally, the bell did ring and she could move on to her last class of the day. One step closer to where she wanted to be, surely. But before going to class, Becca stopped off in the bathroom to fix her hair. For some reason her ponytail just hadn't been cooperating like normal. Looking in the mirror, she pulled out the hairband she'd had in, letting her hair fall down around her face. The break between periods was coming closer to being over and by the time the bell rang there wasn't anyone else in the bathroom besides her. Having finished fixing her hair, Becca just stood there surveying herself in the mirror a little bit. She didn't much care about being late to the last class of the day. It wasn't a big deal.
She was fully prepared to go to class once she was finished looking herself over. But just as she was about to leave, it happened again. One moment, she was standing there in front of the mirror. The next moment, she was looking down at her body. She watched her body fall, seeing the way she hit her head on the edge of the sink before falling to the tiled floor. Becca screamed, though she wasn't sure if the sound would register to anyone but herself. This wasn't normal. You weren't supposed to have out of body experiences for no reason. They weren't supposed to be this real even if you did.
"Why the hell is this happening to me?" she said. She wanted to be back in her body. She didn't want to be some sort of freak that could jump out of her own skin. Becca tried to keep herself calm, but it was hard when she was looking down at her body, laying there on the floor. It was a few minutes before someone finally came into the bathroom. It was a girl she didn't recognize, but at the sight of seeing Becca on the floor, she rushed to help. It seemed that the girl couldn't see her, but that was probably for the best. Becca hoped that the girl shaking her shoulder and saying her name would get things to snap back to normal. She closed her eyes, concentrating on how she wanted everything to just go back.
When her eyes opened again, she was looking at the bathroom ceiling. And there was a sharp pain in her head.
"Are you okay?" the girl asked, though her voice sounded a little fuzzy. Becca shook her head carefully, trying not to make the pain any worse. Though that didn't go as well as planned.
The girl helped her to the nurse's office where Becca lied about what had happened. She said she'd slipped in a puddle on the floor and had hit her head on the sink. The pain and bit of dizziness was enough for her to get sent home early.
Her dad came to pick her up, and she was still holding an ice pack to her head when she went outside to his car. She sent out a mass text to the squad saying that she wouldn't be at practice and that she was leaving someone else in charge. As excited as she'd been for practice, it was the furthest thing from her mind once she got in her dad's car.
