Elaine's expression was rarely very expressive. Although usually neutral, most who knew her were able to note the small shifts signaling displeasure, amusement, and approval. In this case, the ever-so-slight upward tilt of her lips and lift of her eyebrows signaled a pleasant approval.
"You've obviously given this some thought, Francis. ISS was suggested by another teacher as well. There remains the small matter of duration, however, which is contingent upon whether we have enough evidence to hold him responsible. Obviously, in most matters, the report of a staff member would be sufficient." Here, her hand moved to indicate that Francis, of course, was that staff member.
"I would like to give him the opportunity to confess to the vandalism before I call him to my office. If he comes forward and admits the lockers were destroyed in anger, we could both minimize his punishment and, with his cooperation, help him to find a more productive means of channeling his emotions."
