Lulu definitely did not care for the air of seriousness that had been lingering in the air for the past few days, and she especially didn't care for the way it was affecting one of the town's greatest sources of comic relief. The fact that even Jacob couldn't think of a clever retort to Scumbag Swafford's ridiculous gambling ring was more than a little off-putting to Lulu, especially since Jacob was always her go-to source for humor, even in the darkest of situations. Then again, he was her father. With the exception of Lexie herself (and maybe Eisen too), there was no one that this news would have hit harder than Jacob and Emma. Honestly, if these things had been happening to Wolf or Axel, Lulu would've been on the warpath faster than you could say "bye bye birdy." She was glad that they'd at least decided to leak the news (and who better to tell than Lexie's super-protective, almost-older-brother?), since she was absolutely certain that Lexie would find out some way or another, and Lulu would much prefer that revelation to be made by someone other than Songbitch.
But regardless of what they were doing about it now, or what would happen in the future, one thing was certain: Jakey needed a drink. Likely, he needed lots of drinks. And fortunately for Jacob, Lulu was a fabulous drinking buddy. Apart from which, she'd been dying to go out on the town with him for ages now (it had been difficult for them to both find the time to do such things now that they both had jobs, the project, and multiple teenaged children, not to mention the other near-weekly crises that kept popping up) and despite the relative sombreness of the occasion, Lulu fully intended to seize the opportunity.
And that was how she found herself knocking on a familiar door at nine o' clock on a Tuesday. She grinned at Jacob when he opened the door. "Jakey!" she enthused, leaning forward to offer two European-style cheek kisses. "You look like you need a drink. Or six. You're coming with me." Lulu leaned past the man in the doorway to yell inside to her sister. "Hey sis! I'm stealing your husband for a few hours! I promise to return him relatively unscathed!" Key word, of course, being "relatively."
