Eisen had been plucking away at perfecting the song he’d learned for Lexie. Rory’s reassurance had done wonders for his confidence, and it seemed that since he’d asked his friend for his two cents, his play had just improved that much. He was almost ready to share it with her. Okay, so he was ready… but it was a well known fact that his confidence just wasn’t that high when it came for things being right for Lexie. He wanted to be better for her. He wanted to be good enough, and he still didn’t think he was there.
Wrought with nerves, he jumped up when he heard her knock on the door. He almost didn’t hear it. Maybe he wouldn’t have, were he not taking a pause. But he had, so he set his guitar down and headed for the door, pulling it open and smiling when he saw her. The smile was nervous, but he was pretty sure no one could tell the difference. “Hey,” he closed his eyes and kissed her softly, then watched her walk into his apartment and closed the door. “I made cocoa, since I figured you’d be freezing. And turkey soup is in the oven for later, since I figured it was a perfect night for it.”
Taking a few steps forward, he caught her around the waist as she was taking her coat off and turned his head to kiss her on the cheek. “I missed you.”
