It wasn't disregard so much as the fact that she wanted to concentrate and do it right. If she didn't concentrate, the results she had in mind were less likely. Normally, though, Christin would have been the first to try and comfort Seth because his mother was terrible. It was just how she was. Had she not been trying to prove something, the very same thing would have happened this time around too.
The phone rang, and Christine was rather sure that it was going to be his mother. She didn't mind it when Seth got up from the table to answer the phone. She simply observed, to see if what she'd done had worked. From the side of the conversation that she could hear, she was rather sure that it had. Christine nodded when he asked if she had done that. "Yes, I did."
"It's...probability, I think? Chance, and all that. I can make stuff happen that would normally never happen, to a point. And sometimes I can make things that are likely to happen not happen at all."
