Seth continued eating his pasta along with Christine who seemed to not respond to what he said, which was odd. He had expected one of two responses. Either she would have comforted him over his mother being a horrible bitch or she would have laughed with him. Her mothering side tended her to choose option one almost all of the times. But disregarding it and continue eating he didn't expect at all. He didn't let it bother him though.
He was a little startled when his phone rang. Seth did consider it rude to answer his phone when he was having dinner with Christine but she said he should answer it so he glanced quickly at the caller id. It was his mother. He gave a confused look and glanced at Christine then back at the phone. 'She couldn't have...' but she could have, no harm in finding out for sure. If it was his mother harping her could always hang up. So he flipped his phone open and stepped away from the table,
"Hey Mom."
"Oh hi honey, how are you?" 'How am I, what the hell?' Seth thought before answering in a confused tone glancing back at Christine,
"I'm fine...why?"
"Well because you're my only son dear and I love you, but I assume you're having dinner and I interrupted you, I'm sorry." Seth stared at the phone in utter shock. His mother had never, ever, said she loved him. Well unless when the family was around the press that is and they had to play the role of the perfect happy little family.
"Um, yeah...it's okay...mom."
"Okay sweetie, I love you, bye."
"Love...you...too...bye," he replied slowly as he shut the phone and stared back at Christine. His shocked look didn't fade as he sat across from her, "You did that right?"
