Ben shrugged and smiled. “Any time, Jace,” he told his friend. It was true, at least in Ben’s case, that he didn’t need as much information as a girl would. Take that, Charlie Parker, I’m not a girl after all, he thought jokingly, then turned his attention back to his friend. “If she has any sense at all, she’ll come around. And if not, well,” he tried to think of a diplomatic way to say that she had more issues than he thought, but there was none, “she messed up.” And that went without saying, really, but what did you say to a guy who’d just been forced to do what Jacen had?
Ben decided to just go with it when Jacen mentioned crackers. “All right,” he nodded, smiling a little bit. Issues like mail could be dealt with later, whether it meant going through their parents or Ben getting it from Josie at school or something. Right now, he needed to get Jacen some crackers, then answer his question. “Everything’s fine,” he said simply. “You know me, my life is boring,” he chuckled.
Jacen didn’t need to worry about him, anyway. He had plenty on his plate, that and Ben wasn’t the type to ask for help with his problems anyway. “I’ll go get you crackers and water.” It was a brief trip to the kitchen, but Ben got the saltines and a glass of water, and brought them to the guest room, knocking on the door just in case Jacen had decided to get into his pajamas or something. “Got the crackers, and some water.”
