Jacen would have really liked to smile at his friend here at this time. He would have liked to give him one of those manly half-hugs and a pat on the back for being an ace friend in times of crisis. He wanted to profusely thank him for doing something that not many people would readily do, regardless of their friendship status. But all Jacen could manage at the moment was a tiny, 30-second grin and a nod.
His eyes were noticeably bloodshot from all the crying he had done back at the coffee shop with Annie, and though he wasn't feeling as emotional now, he was sure that any little thing could set him off. Losing Josie wasn't like losing any regular ole person, especially since she never went down without a fight. And Jacen? Well, he wasn't the fighting type. So, he'd let her carry on with her senseless ranting, only saying what he needed to in order to get his point across. It didn't matter to her that every one of her words remained in his mind, ingrained forever and slowly cutting through pieces of his soul.
"Thanks for this, man," he finally said in a hoarse whisper. "Is it okay if I leave my bike out there?" He wasn't sure if they had a special place for that sort of thing. He'd been a visitor to the Bailey household countless times, though he'd never stayed as a guest. Not for more than a day or so anyway. He felt terrible for imposing on them like this, but he was even too tired to express that.
