Even though he did, there was always the fact that he wasn't exactly normal himself and probably only a matter of time before he was inadvertently copying her. Yeah, he had pretty much already accepted her and was more worried now about her actually liking it there and make him feel like he was the one being interviewed except... Asking all the questions instead. Then any good journalist knew the goal was to get the truth without making the other person storm out of the room. Though there probably couldn't be much to be asked in something like this that wouldn't involve him also getting slapped or kicked in places that he'd rather keep protected. And he also had a healthy enough fear of what Mal's brothers would do to him after she was done to ever stray into that area of questioning.
"Coming right up then." He headed into the kitchen just glancing back to make sure she wasn't watching in there before adding enough water to one of his smaller pots and setting it on a little metal rack with what looked to be a disposable pie tin under it. It was supposed to be some sort of little portable grill that you put the coals into the pie tin in order to cook the food, but there wasn't anything in it right now. The lighter only had to really give him a spark enough to start a ball of flames in his hand that he made go under the pot to start heating the water. It was a lot faster than his stove or even the microwave most of the time. He could blame Penny for tipping him off to stop by Fiona Bailey's birthday party and say hi to her mom. It had really kept the house warmer while he was waiting for the thermostat to get fixed. Though the crater he had made in the snow with a fireball needed to be covered up pretty quickly and he'd sworn off playing with it too much outside.
He poked his head out for a moment after grabbing a mug and a packet of hot chocolate. "I had one for about a week last summer, but her parents apparently didn't approve of her moving out. Some families are closer than others I guess and less willing to let their little birdies leave the nest." While if he could have moved out on his 18th birthday, he probably would have. "I won't have you just wanting to move out after a month, will I?" He added a little teasingly before going back over to mix up her drink and bringing it out after manipulating the fire down to a candle that just sat on the counter flickering happily. "Careful, that's hot."
