Well that was… unexpected. Fiona’s jaw almost dropped as Seth spoke, and for a moment she almost leaned in. Almost kissed him, almost gave him that little gift of being smug. But instead Fiona slowly stood up, turning away and taking a few steps back. She was confused, she’d always thought of herself as being nothing more than a student to Seth, one of a million who had a raging crush on him. She turned back to face him, her cheeks red at just how thoroughly she was considering going over and doing what she’d just stopped.
“I- I don’t understand,” she finally said, never really one who liked to admit that. Fiona liked knowing, liked understanding. Why on Earth would Seth be interested in her? Yes, he’d said before that he didn’t think of her as being Crazy Fiona from high school, and he didn’t seem all that concerned with the fact that her crush had never really faded. But Fiona also knew that Seth and she doing anything together, even just holding hands, would set Alex off in such a huge way it wouldn’t even be funny. In fact, Fiona was pretty sure Alex would have punched Seth if he knew what was going on right then.
“I’m just… me. And you’re , you’re- you,” she said, gesturing towards him with the journal. Fiona didn’t know how else to say it, because that truly did seem to be the sum of it all for her.
Seth was Seth, Fiona was Fiona. Ice was cold. Bears shit in the wood.
