"Um. Yeah. No." Luke said firmly at Mao's mention of riding his most prized possession by himself. "I'll give you a ride sometime in the spring, but there is no fucking way you're getting on my bike by yourself, power or no power. It's not that I don't trust you. I just don't trust you."
Luke just kind of stood their awkwardly for a few moments, his eyes fixed on the bed. Hm. The last time they'd both been on a bed together they'd managed to get themselves into a rather... compromising position, but it would be weird if he just sat on the floor.
...
Whatever.
Luke gingerly eased himself onto the side of the bed, balancing a little on its very edge. Maybe he'd edge over some more when he felt more comfortable. In an effort to distract from the fact that this whole situation was horribly awkward, Luke kept focusing on their conversation. He whistled. "Just like Jesus and the magic water," Luke said, impressed. (Unsurprisingly, that particular story in the Bible had always fascinated him.)
After a few seconds of impressed silence, though, Luke rolled his eyes a little. "Okay, I understand why it's important to keep these things a secret, since I'm trying to keep mine under wraps too, but seriously I think we teenagers need to start being more open about this, at least with each other. I figure we'll get farther if we pool all our knowledge at the same time instead of just making random guesses and relying on gossip."
