Lexie wanted to ask whether it had been an effort with Cait (feeling a small pang of satisfaction as the question struck her) but she restrained herself. That was in the past, right? There was no need to compare herself to Cait, although Cait would doubtless be doing the same to her as soon as she found out. "Well then, let's make a pact," Lexie said, turning to him. "I will always be your friend first. Okay?"
Her expression flickered a little when he told her his reasoning. Was every guy going to say that? Really? Why did everyone in her life think that she was too good for them? Was she acting in some way to leave them to believe that it was true? "Well that's just not true," she told him firmly. "You are good enough. If anything it's the other way around."
She listened to the next thing he said, but her mind was wandering, caught in that last bit of information he'd given her. Still, she managed to respond, "You mean when Rory comes around."
Looking up at him, with the snow in his hair and that adorable half-smile on his face, Lexie decided that she was entitled to a little loss of control. If all the guys who had ever liked her hadn't wanted to be with her because they felt that she was too good of them, then dammit it was time she started being reckless and indulgent. Catching hold of his coat, Lexie stopped him from standing up and turned her face toward him, pausing for just an instant before pressing a kiss to his lips. She held him tight, and didn't let go for a long time. On releasing him she whispered, "So much for being too good for you. I obviously have no impulse control."
