Eisen laughed and shrugged. “Of course I have. So many years, of course I’ve thought about it…but I have so many ideas that it’s going to be hard to pick which one to use,” he added with another laugh. “I know. Me saying that is probably sending such mixed signals, because I know I spent forever with Cait, but…what we had was very different from this, Lex. We’ve always had something different; something where I still felt as strongly as I did, even if you weren’t with me…” he mused.
She squeezed his hand and comforted him in the way only she knew how and he smiled, pulling her in for a hug. Again, it was hardly appropriate, but damn it, he’d been resisting his feelings for way too long. Putting them there and then telling him no was like snatching the carrot from the hungry rabbit. “I know. I’m okay now, for the most part, but the offer means a lot.”
Yet again, she knew just what to say and it was equally as impossible for Eisen to resist the urge to lean in and kiss her. “Thanks, Lex,” he said softly, releasing her from the hug and sighing softly. “I’m sorry for acting like this, it’s just weird, fighting with someone you’ve never fought with before. And you know me. I hate having people angry at me,” he added, knowing that she’d understand the sentiment, because she quite obviously shared it.
