Eisen’s heart thrummed in his chest, reminding him that this was actually happening. That he wasn’t dreaming it and that he’d actually, really and truly kissed Lexie Tibbits. And she’d actually, really and truly returned the gesture. It felt...okay, really, words didn’t describe how it felt. Good? Not enough. Great? Still not enough. Eisen was over the moon at the moment. It felt right. That was how it felt. Right. Nothing he’d ever done had felt more right than this.
And then she pulled back from the contact and looked at him with...okay, he wasn’t sure what that expression was, but it certainly wasn’t what he’d hoped for. Or what Rory had suspected would happen. There was worry and...well, he wasn’t sure, but that looked like scared-Lexie face and Eisen didn’t like that he’d brought it to her.
Swallowing thickly, he gave her an awkward half-smile. “Um...” he paused. What did he say? Did he apologize? No, because he wasn’t sorry, nor was he a liar, and he didn’t intend to start lying today, especially not to Lexie. “What I meant to say was...thank you,” he chuckled a little bit.
“There’s more than that, of course,” he mumbled. “Like that I’ve wanted to do that for ages and that I probably picked the worst possible time to do it, what with Ed and everything else that’s been going on in your life lately, but I’ve wanted to...for a long time. Since I was about sixteen, I think...” he told her, his tone hushed. He knew that he’d been on and off with Cait at the time, and it would likely warrant some explanation, but he hoped that she’d at least believe him.
“But, um...” he drew his lower lip into his mouth and reached a hand up to push some of his hair from his face. “I’m sorry if you didn’t want that...”
