Mal followed Ed’s direction, nodding as she stuffed her hands into her pockets and walked off in the direction he’d dictated. She eyed the pavement beneath her feet, but sporadically turning to look up at him. He really was good looking. For all the negative feelings that she had for Lexie, she couldn’t fault the girl’s taste.
Speaking of which, she bit her lip and turned her head. “So,” she started, pondering her words carefully. “I know I wasn’t my normal cheery self when I waited on you and Lexie earlier, and for that I’m really sorry, Ed,” she said earnestly. “I just…” How did she explain this without giving herself away or sounding passive aggressive? She wasn’t that good at explaining things to begin with, and this made it even harder. “Lexie and I have never really gotten along. And it took me by surprise to see her there with you. I probably could have handled it a lot better. So, yeah. I’m sorry,” she admitted.
Her head turned and she looked at the road, which had turned into an unfamiliar road, leading to the beach. Wasn’t this road supposed to lead to school? She pondered it carefully, looking over her shoulder and then back at the road ahead. Had she changed it subconsciously, or had he changed it? It didn’t matter, she wasn’t going to complain.
