"Don't get your hopes up too high!" Lexie warned. "I'm pretty good, but it'll be kind of like a sports player coming back after an injury, you know? These things take time. But thank you. I appreciate the confidence." Lexie turned her head away to smother another yawn. Ugh. This was ridiculous.
"Wow, I never thought that flute and lacrosse could have this much in common!" Lexie joked.
Their conversation continued in this vein for a while, the only real tension caused when Mallorie came with their food, and again with their check. Everyone managed to remain civil, however, and Ed and Lexie continued to chatter and get along all through the meal and on the way home, although Lexie was never quite able to shake the tireness she'd felt since the beginning. This embarrassed her greatly, of course, and she apologized for her yawning, assuring him that it had nothing to do with him and really hoping that understood. When Ed dropped her off at her house, she said,
"That was really fun, Ed. Thank you so much." She hug him warmly and gave him a smile and a light kiss on the cheek. "I'll let you know when I'm done with my jury, okay?"
