Brendan was quietly settled at one of the tables in the cafe of La Bouquinèrie. Usually he would be there to flip through a textbook and get all that he could out of it, but this time he wanted something different. He picked up a collection of Poe short stories and poems and began to read through it. By now, he was on Annabel Lee, which was one of his favorites for some reason. By sitting in the cafe, he could read without any real disturbance from anyone else or he wouldn't obstruct anyone else from looking at books if he were to be sitting on the floor, hiding behind the shelves.
It was a wonder why the store clerks never said anything to him. He would read for hours and hours and yet never buy anything. He had done it for years and they still had not said anything. Maybe they liked him? He had gotten to know a couple of them well enough. Or maybe it just wasn't as bad as he thought it was. As they had not said anything, Brendan continued on reading his book of sublime poetry in peace.
