Alfie knew (or rather was told by several people) that Lexie was indeed going to be fine. However, this did not put Alfie at ease at all. Just the fact he hadn't been able to see her made all these crazy conspiracy theories come out of nowhere. He was expected to go to school and do ordinary work as if his sister wasn't in the hospital or anything. It was kind of bullshit actually, and he made little effort to actually concentrate in any of his classes. In fact, he even blew off swim team practice just to go visit Lexie at the hospital to see for himself.
Alfie had never had to go to the hospital and stay overnight. Sure, he had his few cases of a fever that wouldn't go down or stomach viruses that would keep you throwing up for hours. But other than that, he never had to be admitted. Nor could he ever remember a time when either Lexie nor Annie had to stay at the hospital like this. So, it took Alfie a bit to finally locate Lexie's room.
He grinned though when he heard her voice. That somehow made him feel calmer about all of this. He was expecting the worst, for her to be in like some sort of coma or something. But that was just his overactive imagination going into overdrive. "Hey Lexie," he said and dropped his bag on the floor before going over to give her a hug. For a moment, he had to hold back some tears. Something about the situation overwhelmed him, but he regained his composure quickly.
