Had Eisen known how long she’d been hiding this, he would have been even more concerned than he already was. Things like this could progress to dangerous levels really fast, and that she’d been dealing with it silently for as long as she had made his stomach do an uncomfortable churn. However, he knew her. He knew how hard she tried to be strong and while it was respectable, sometimes he wished that she’d share the burden so that it wouldn’t be so much for her to carry. Not even necessarily with him, but with someone like Macy or one of her parents or siblings.
But at the same time, he understood why she hadn't.
He knew that the hug and the kiss on the cheek were likely unexpected gestures, but it was one of those situations when his logical mind lost out to the fact that he cared about her so much, that he just wanted to protect her and make her feel safe. He was about to speak up and at least apologize for invading her space, but he didn’t get the chance.
And that was when he saw firsthand what she’d been going through. He watched her hurry to put her spasming arm in check and frowned, taking his seat again. He didn’t hesitate, however, to reach for her hand and take it in his, a silent show that he was there for her, no matter what she was going through. “Don’t apologize, Lex. It’s not your fault, okay? And I’m not going anywhere. Not unless you want me to.”
