“Oh right, rent,” Eisen chuckled a little bit. He wasn’t really that nonchalant about it, but saying so would completely ruin the air he was trying to put off here. “The superhero market is pretty thin if they’re giving jobs to scrawny dudes like me,” he snickered and gave her a bit of a smile. “So long as I’m limited to just being Super Cook, I think I’ll be all right.”
Lexie’s insecurities and the fact that David had screwed her over like he did were exactly what was keeping Eisen from saying anything. He wasn’t like David, no. Because he knew that Lexie was the type of girl that deserved the best. Flowers at random, cute little mix tapes, teddy bears, extra care when she was sick… It would take time, but he’d prove to her, for the time being, that he was nothing like David, and then maybe he would ask her if she was interested. Of course, he wasn’t exactly full of romantic experience either. All he had to go on was his time with Cait and that wasn’t really anything to write a romance advice book about. He was foolish enough to think that she was continuously coming back to him, so that was a definite no. “Awesome.” He smiled at her agreement to dinner and studying. Little steps. There’s no need to rush. Especially not now.
“Well, there’s no need to feel bad, but if you did something nice, I wouldn’t turn you away,” Eisen told her. “That’s not why I do this stuff, you know that, right? I remember things because I care about you.”
