Lexie smiled, shaking her head a little. "You continue to amaze me, Eisen." It was a shame that he didn't put quite the same amount of effort into his school work as he did into his cooking, but Lexie wasn't going to voice that opinion. Maybe the two were mutually exclusive, considering that she had the opposite problem - she threw herself into her work, but she was convinced that she could ruin a salad if she were given the chance. She was about to add that maybe she should let him cook for her some more, but she stopped herself.
Last time she'd let a guy cook for her things had not ended well. Granted, it had been different with David, but she wasn't about to throw around mixed signals, especially now that she knew firsthand how much they could hurt. Not that she didn't like Eisen. She did. She had for a long time. But the fact was that, like David, he probably didn't like her. And she just couldn't handle going through that again. Not so soon. Instead, she turned her attention to the Eisen's offer to help her, her eyes sparkling a little.
"You can be my official flashcard holder," Lexie promised. "It's not a very interesting job, but it's a really, really important one." Flashcards were Lexie's favorite way to study, but she found that they weren't as effective if she held them herself. Plus, it was just more fun studying wiht another person, especially if it was a subject as dry as music theory. She looked away from him for a moment at the 'bad things happen to good people' explanation. "Yeah..." she agreed in a faraway tone. "Sometimes they do." After a moment's silence, she seemed to come back to herself, her attitude brightening a little to chase away the cloud that and just settled over it. "But I'll get better. And I'll be out of here by Christmas at least." At least, she hoped so.
"Wow." She put the CD down and looked at Eisen intently, a hard-to-hide hint of adoration in her eyes. "You're a really good listener, then."
