Lexie's smile faltered a little at the dreaded "how are you feeling" question, but only for an instant. It pained her that she still couldn't answer this question with any sort of definite, positive response, but she tried not to let that dampen her spirits. "Oh... you know..." she said nonchalantly. "Getting better every day, I suppose." It wasn't exactly the most effective way to avoid the question, but it would do, especially if she changed the subject.
"You brought me lasagna!" she enthused, her face lighting up again with its full force. "Thank you, Eisen. I promise I'll think of a good way to repay you as soon as I'm out of here. Maybe kissing your feet? Giving you my firstborn?" Hospital food wasn't really that bad, but on her birthday it was definitely nice to have a change.
