WHO: Mark and Francis
WHAT: First aid/CPR course.
WHERE: High school auditorium.
WHEN: Wednesday evening, Dec 8
RATING: PG-13 for language
Between his day job and his duty to the scientists, Francis had almost considered not showing up for the first aid certification course he had signed up for. Everything concerning Alexandria had come to a head quickly, of course right when he'd bothered to do anything extracurricular. The thing that made him attend after all was that it was a change of pace from all the crap he'd been doing for the past week and a half, and he actually needed to renew his certification desperately, so honestly he would have been stupid to skip.
The course, like every other he'd taken, was a huge snooze fest. Francis already knew all of the information the instructor had to offer, and because of the high ceiling of the auditorium her voice carried up instead of out, making it difficult to hear her at all. One would think the school would foresee the problem and give her a microphone, but obviously they just wanted to torture him. For once, even though he hated sticking his mouth on CPR dummies that had been stored who-knew-where and slobbered on by who-knows-who, he was really looking forward to the practical portion of the class.
He didn't have to wait long. The instructor told them they'd have to work two to a dummy, and invited people in the group up to claim one. Everyone who hadn't gotten their hands on a dummy would have to partner up with someone who had one, and then they could practice what they learned.
Francis, who had taken a seat further back in the room, wasn't close to the dummies whatsoever, so by the time he got up front they'd all been claimed, leaving him with the task of choosing a partner. Most of the faces in there were familiar, and Francis had even paired up with some of them in past certification courses, but to him that was a good reason to avoid them. Besides which, one new face in the crowd stood out more than the others'.
Mark Swafford, Seth's friend. Francis headed toward him, hoping he didn't have the potential to be as irritating as Seth could sometimes be.
Instead of greet Mark and introduce himself, Francis merely stood beside him, claiming him as his partner silently.
