Mal was inherently glad that she’d worn her hiking boots today. The walkway was icy and not even the salt was doing much good to keep her from sliding a little as she walked. With her coordination, it was a miracle that she was staying standing. Pushing some of the annoying strands of bangs that tended to hang down in front of her face back, she looked up the long hilled path that led to the student center and decided that maybe it wasn’t the best course of action to go up there right now. Or at all until all the snow melted. Knowing her luck, she’d make it to the top, slip and fall all the way back down. It was amusing that she actually somehow managed to balance better on the ice on skates than on solid, whole-footing.
What was it about macroeconomics that made her a negative Nellie? Probably just macroeconomics in general, she decided. That exam would make anyone feel like the world was ending.
She jumped a little, thus sliding a little more on the icy ground when someone called her name, turned her head and looked up a little bit to see Ed standing there, smiling at her. Once she regained her footing, she returned the gesture and looked up at him, saluting a greeting. “Hey, Ed! How’s it going, man?” she asked.
Socialization versus studying for public finance class. I’m not much good at either, but at least I can hold a conversation better than working a calculator, right? She looked up the hill again, carefully thinking about whether or not she wanted to take the plunge and climb, then deciding that it was better than standing in the cold and turning into an icicle. “Promise not to laugh at me if I fall ass over teakettle down this hill?”
