Who: Janey Watts and Brendan. What: Janey gets a flat tire; Brendan helps her fix it. Where: Middle of nowhere, the highway. When: Monday. Rating: PG-13 (possibly more for language).
It was a 1956 Ford Piece of Shit. Or at least that was what Janey liked to refer to her old 2011 Ford Focus. It was a 19-year-old car that had surely once belonged to a dinosaur at some point in its life. The paint had long since lost its luster, but somehow, it was still going. And for Janey that was all that really mattered. She didn't need a shiny and newly waxed car. She needed to get around, and her old beat up thing did just fine. Sure, it wasn't the pretty princess car every girl dreamed of, but it worked. Working was just as good as anything else.
It was Monday after school, and Janey was on her way back from getting her mother's medication. Since it was a special prescription, sometimes it was difficult to get from any old mama and papa drug store. These had to be picked up directly from the hospital, which was a little ways from where Janey lived. As night was falling, Janey cruised along the highway, windows down and just feeling the wind ripping through her hair as the sounds of David Bowie echoed all around her. She hadn't been smoking, and it was probably for the best considering the explosion that rocked her little car and nearly gave Janey a heart attack.
"What the FUCK?"
She turned the car to the left to pull over, but the wheel hardly responded. It wasn't until she gassed it a little more that it finally veered off to the side of the road. Janey threw off her seat belt and jumped out of the car to survey the damage. "SHIT!" The entire front wheel was in shreds. She had no idea what she had run over or if the wheel was just so old that it exploded of its own accord. "Mother fucking shit." Janey stormed over to where her spare was, managing to pull it out and roll it over to her right front tire. She sighed as she stared at the blown tire before her. It was already pretty dark out. There was no way she was going to do this on her own.
