It'd been one hell of a week. As far as he could tell, most of the island was still buzzing about Dietre Abendroth and his unfortunate parents, and since Francis himself had been too intimately involved for his own comfort, reading and hearing about it on a constant basis was getting on his nerves. What was more, he hadn't gotten any follow-up e-mails from Arthur Bacchus or anyone else. Apparently his services had done their job, but he wasn't important enough to get anymore inside information. Stuff like that wasn't unusual, but he couldn't help feeling a little left out. It was bad enough he had to wonder about how the kid was doing in general, but to wonder like everyone else without answers made him feel bitter.
That bitter feeling combined with being cooped up in the house had Francis pulling on his coat and heading over to Frye's Leap. There was a good chance he'd run into someone from school, whether a teacher or a familiar face from the student body, but it was a risk he was willing to take for a good burger and some fresh air. It didn't take long to get there, because it didn't take long to get anywhere from anywhere else on the tiny piece of land Francis had called home for most of his life. He didn't know much of anything about the rest of the world; he didn't even remember where he'd lived before. His parents never talked about it, and Francis never cared to look it up.
One cheeseburger and fries order-to-go later, Francis clutched the greasy bag and didn't care that it was going against everything he was supposed to care to promote as a school nurse. So far he hadn't seen anyone he would have to pretend to care in front of, so he turned to make a break for the door – only to spot Seth Enders slipping into a booth on the other side of the restaurant. Francis hesitated, glancing back to the door, but decided sitting inside wouldn't hurt, after all.
"Hey," Francis greeted as he reached Seth's table, and he didn't pause to allow Seth to invite him to sit: he sat on the bench across the table and set his bag down. To prove he really meant to stay, he began unpacking his to-go bag onto the table top.
