The smile took him off guard. People generally did not smile at him like that very often. Dietre didn't return it, only blinked as though he didn't understand the question. There was an awkward silence while the boy processed what he had been asked, but he did answer, even if it took a while.
"Yes." But one word didn't seem good enough. There was something in the dark haired man's smile that somehow reminded Dietre of Gloriana. A sort of inviting sweetness. Decidedly non-threatening. He forced himself over his reluctance to make idle chitchat and attempted to flesh out his response. "...And compose." He glanced to the sheet music just beyond his reach. "But...only piano."
The boy's voice was a little lower than one might expect given his looks, soft and a bit husky. He had a rather stilted way of talking, as if his thoughts would tangle up if he wasn't careful, so he could only let them out a bit at a time. He had gone quiet and it seemed like he perhaps considered the conversation over until he awkwardly blurted, "Violin is nice, though." as though he were embarrassedly apologetic that his musical talents were restricted to piano.
