David still wasn't sure why he was going to see his father. Sure he knew why he was going literally. He was going to help his father pick out a birthday present for his mom. It wasn't unusual. He did it every year. But they usually did it over the phone or, if David thought he could stomach it, they went to the store together. Why he'd been lured to Town Hall was beyond him.
Town Hall was probably the only building in town that David could think of that had more than two stories to it. It loomed large in front of him as he made his way up the steps to the lobby. It was familiar, in the sense that David had been there a million times before, but then also strangely unfamiliar. It had probably been years since the last time he'd visited it. Still, he knew where he was going and made his way quickly to the elevator, which was just about to close as he reached it, "Wait! Hold it!" He shouted, wedging himself inside of it. He was already late, and was not really in the mood to wait for another one. He wanted the gift shopping ordeal over as soon as possible.
