Who: Alex Bailey and Lexie Tibbits.
When: Friday afternoon.
Where: Outside the Bailey residence.
Rating: TBD.
It must have been about two thousand degrees outside. Talk about heat stroke. The ground was hot enough to fry eggs, bacon and two pancakes on. And perhaps if you were still hungry, you could toss a batch of cookies down on the pavement. Alex sighed as he looked out from his perch on the porch of his family's house. With the back of his hand, he brushed away the trickling sweat droplets that threatened to fall into his eyes and blind him forever. He was being dramatic of course, but the weather was extreme enough to merit such a drama. Alex was happy though. Or more like accomplished. He had managed to mow the lawn and fix up some of the planterns that had gone astray throughout the year.
It was as much a success as it was a failure. Another day of complete exhaustion, enough to have him fall into bed at night without so much as saying a word to his beautiful fiancée or even feeding his dog. And speaking of... A wet tongue descended down upon Alex's hand, and he yelped before realizing what it was and chuckling a bit. "Well, hello, there Artemis. Fancy having you lick my hand today." In one swift motion, he picked up his puppy, whom he'd brought over from his house, and planted her promptly on his lap. Artemis seemed to enjoy this attention and wagged her little tail happily. Alex smiled. Even though the weather was horrible, and he'd sweated right through his clothes, the sight of a cute puppy waggling her tail at him could always melt his heart.
His happiness was cut short, however, when Artemis's ears perked, and she began barking. "Is someone coming, girl? Is it mommy?" Alex's fiancée knew he had been going to his house to make repairs and help out where he could. Perhaps she had come by to check on his progress. Or perhaps... Artemis continued to grow more and more agitated, and Alex frowned. "What is it, girl?" It wasn't until he could hear the footsteps approaching did he stand, holding his puppy close to his now bare chest. It was too hot for shirts. It was too hot for walking about. And it was too hot to deal with strangers.
