Calvin felt a little stab of guilt as Vivian brought up Katie. Yes. He actually had been about to say that, hoping that it would be reassuring. As she asked the question, though, he realized that maybe the fact that he'd talked to Katie first was less reassuring and more insulting. He knew (at least to some small extent) that Vivian didn't like that he was growing up, that he was spending most of his time with other people, especially since he and Vivian used to be so inseparable. But now everything was changing... and as much as Calvin wasn't a fan of change, he'd had months to get used to having Katie in his life. But somehow it didn't seem to have worked out the same way for poor Vivian.
Brushing his fingers through his sister's hair, he smiled down at her. "I know, Viv." He responded gently. "I love you too." He was quiet for a few moments, canting his head a little when she asked him to stay home too. "I'd love to stay home with you, Viv." Good. That was a good compromise. He was sure that Katie wanted him at the party, but she was there with her brother. And since he didn't really want to go to the party in the first place, what better way to spend his time than to stay at home with his sister? Besides, she really needed the sleep, and he'd be glad to watch her to make sure that she would get some. "I'll stay here and you can sleep. And then if you have nightmares or anything I can wake you up, okay?" Calvin failed to mention the fact that if anyone was going to have nightmares that night, it would probably be him, but for now, that was beside the point.
