Nathan had to admit his day had gone just about normal as it always did lately. He worked then he went to the pub and had no luck so he was heading home. The work was interesting and he enjoyed drinking but nights like that left him feeling like something was missing. Wrapping his coat around him he made his way through the streets of the island to the house where he, Lily and Luke lived not expecting either of them to be up. If Lily was though? That might be good, but maybe not, he'd have to wait and see.
Making his way through the house toward the light he saw he found his 'wife' still up. "Lily," he said as sweetly as he could manage leaning against the door frame. "How was your day?" he asked her in the nicest tone he could manage.
Lily enjoyed working. She enjoyed being a mother, being a ballet teacher, and owning the studio. She’d even managed to find some sort of fulfillment in helping her son clean up after the party she’d allowed to take place. But it was tiring work, and after a long bubble bath she’d reigned herself to having a glass of late night wine and then snuggling up in bed with a trashy magazine about who was having sex with who. It was mindless, but it put her to sleep faster than a sleeping pill ever would.
Standing in the kitchen she had just begun to savor that first sip of Cabernet Sauvignon as her body began to unwind and relax into the night. But the moment the door closed she tensed up right away, the sounds of Nathan in the house always putting her a bit on edge. It wasn’t that se hated Nathan per say. She just disliked every thing he said or did. When they first met, there had been that half hour of realizing they were being married of to someone very attractive and how that could be nice. But then Nathan had opened his mouth, and it had been downhill from there. Hell, Nathan slept on the pull out trundle their king sized bed had come with.
But that didn’t stop Lily from having to pretend that they were a couple. So when Lukas asked questions about the romance, Lily simply said she was a Catholic and wouldn’t divorce until that was the only option yet. Lily and Nathan even went to “couples therapy” in the week. Which was truly work for the project.
As Nathan walked into her space, she looked up at him, the dark kitchen making her black cotton pj pants and tank top blend into the night. “...decent,” she said, as if waiting for the catch. “Yours?”
