Laney felt herself leaning into him when he put her arm around her. It was such a simple gesture, but it made her feel warm and fuzzy. It might have been the beer, and honestly, most of it probably was. But there was a small fraction that was just Alfie all on his own and how close he was to her. And that smirk. Laney stared at him for a minute, not really processing what he said until a few minutes after his mouth stopped forming the words. She was mesmerized. Wasn't it funny the way mouths moved? Wasn't it funny the way Alfie's mouth made such perfect shapes?
"Yeah? Well, ditto," she said, once she realized it was her turn to talk. "I wouldn't tell anyone about you even if someone was threatening me with frilly pink dresses." Those were far worse than death, after all.
